We Knew on Our First Date | A Love Story That Couldn't Last

What happens when you finally meet your soulmate… and one day, they’re gone? Episode 2

Love So Overwhelming I Nearly Walked Away

I pulled my hands away when she reached for me across that Starbucks table… and in her eyes, I saw the hurt of someone who thought they were being rejected. I wasn’t pulling away because I didn’t want her. I was pulling away because I had never felt that much love before, and I didn’t know how to hold it.

Episode 4

Blending Lives

Most experts say you should wait months before introducing your children to a new partner. We waited 9 days. In Episode 4 of "My Soulmate Named Adel," I take you back to the terrifying, awkward, and beautiful moment our two families collided inside a bowling alley.

Adel The Shopper

For years, my wife Adel hid the things she loved. Not because she couldn’t afford them. Not because she was irresponsible. But because someone once made her feel wrong for wanting them. This episode of My Soulmate Named Adel tells the true story of how shame can quietly teach us to shrink - and how love, patience, and being truly seen can help us take our lives back.

Episode 6

What You Learn From Each Other

After 26 years of loving the way we’re told to love, I lost Adel, my soulmate. And only after she was gone did I begin to understand what love was really teaching us. In this episode of My Soulmate Named Adel, I share the quiet lessons that only reveal themselves after loss, lessons about presence, silence, shared time, and the kind of love that grows not through perfection, but through attention.  If you’ve loved deeply… If you’ve lost someone who still lives inside you… This episode is for you.

Episode 7

The Line That Silenced the Room at Her Celebration of Life

The hardest speech I’ve ever given was at my wife’s Celebration of Life. I stood in front of family, friends, and colleagues, knowing that whatever I said first would shape how they remembered us. You only get one opening line in a moment like that. Mine silenced the room.

Prologue

Prologue: Red String of Fate

Have you ever met someone and felt something quietly shift inside you?

Not fireworks. Not perfection.

Just a strange sense that something in your life has changed.

In East Asian folklore there is a belief that the people we are meant to love are already connected to us by an invisible red string.

You cannot see it. You cannot control it.

But somehow it pulls two lives together until one day they meet.

Love Laughed Anyway - Episode 8 Thumbnail_edited.jpg

Episode 8

When Everything Went Wrong in Barcelona… We Laughed

One of the most revealing relationship moments Adel and I ever experienced… came on a day when everything went wrong in Barcelona. What started as a simple trip turned into a cascade of mistakes: • Lost train tickets • The wrong train • The wrong station • A locked gate late at night And somehow… it became one of the funniest, most meaningful days of our entire relationship.

Episode 9

Being in the Moment - Why I Stopped Taking Photos

Most people think memories are something you preserve after the moment is gone. But what if trying to capture the moment… is the very thing that takes you out of it? In this episode of My Soulmate Named Adel, I share a moment early in our relationship that changed how I experienced love, presence, and memory forever.

Love Never Missed A Week - E#10 Thumbnail_edited.jpg

Episode 10

You Don't Stop Celebrating Love… You Forget

Most of us wait for the big moments to celebrate love.

The anniversaries. The milestones. The occasions that feel important enough to mark.

But Adel and I had a different tradition. Every week — for over fourteen years — we celebrated what we called our week-anniversary. Not with grand gestures. Just with presence. With the quiet, deliberate choice to say: this week mattered. And so did you.

Episode 11

The Last Season of Normal

Some seasons of life feel expansive… like they’ll go on forever.
This was one of those seasons for us.

A trip that deepened everything—our connection, our dreams, our belief in the future—
before we had any idea how quickly life was about to change.

Episode 12

When Live Deivides Into Before and After

There are moments in a relationship that quietly redefine everything, not because of what they take away, but because of what they reveal. We had just returned from Europe, feeling as though life was finally opening up. We had made a decision together: to restructure our days, to lean into time, to live more deliberately. Within weeks of coming home, a phone call changed all of it.

Episode 13

We Thought We Were Winning

In this episode, I share the year Adel began her fight, from her first surgery on Halloween morning, to chemotherapy that started just before Christmas, to a trip to Los Cabos where, for one brief and beautiful week, life felt normal again. And how, almost a year after her surgery, we both believed, completely and fully, that we were winning.

Episode 14

Love in the Hardest Room

In this episode, I share the call that ended the illusion we'd been holding, eight tumours. Then ten more in her brain. The DNR Adel tried to sign but couldn't. A seizure beside the Christmas tree, and the moment I yelled "Don't leave me now", and she heard me. This is the episode where everything changed.

Episode 15

Love Doesn't Need Words

In this episode, I share what that hospital room taught us about love, not the loud, declarative kind, but the love that sits beside you in silence and refuses to leave. The radiation appointments. The new routine we built together inside those walls. And the quiet, unspoken truth settling over both of us, even as we refused to name it.

Episode 16

We Both Knew

In this episode, I share Adel's final rally, the days when her spirit flared bright one last time. We talked about everything and nothing. She wanted to protect us all from the sadness she knew was coming. And in those final hours, we didn't fill the room with fear. We filled it with love. This is the hardest episode of the 20-part true love story: My Soulmate Named Adel, and the one I'm most grateful I lived.

Episode 17

What Love Leaves Behind

In this episode, I share some of my initial memories of being alone. When Adel passed away, most people assumed the hardest part would be learning to live without her. For a while, I assumed that too. But looking back now, something very different was happening, something I only began to understand on a ferry, alone among strangers, feeling not empty but somehow whole.
